reader, anonymous, writes (5 August 2009): Of course this will very much depend how things stand between you; if you're on good terms/ how long it's been since, and if you're still friends etc, and if there are any leftover hopes/ expectations on either side, and especially whether he has a new partner, but generally speaking-What harm can there really be is wishing anyone a happy birthday? I'm not saying follow it with kisses or even expect a reply, but presuming that you're on good terms, could you ever be offended anyone texting you a happy birthday. Who knows- you might even make him smile!(Of course if you've already texted him 5 times today its another story!)

There's nothing wrong texting your EX on their birthday as long as your both still mates.
Just write the usual
" Happy Birthday, hope you have lots of fun, enjoy the day! "

reader, anonymous, writes (5 August 2009): Depends are you friends with your ex? If so there is no problem. Do they have a new partner now? If so you might create an issue. Do you have a partner now? If so, why bother. I think you are using it as an excuse to test their reaction. Like the other post suggests - maybe better to just leave it and not text. An ex is precisely that.
