Well it is disputed
My personal belief is thats its a colective group of symptons rather than a illness.
You can have all of what Dazzerg said. But also theres a medical conditon fondly known as "broken heart syndrome"in which after a serious heartbreak like a death of a loved one, there heart muscules weaken and they get ill, and people have died from this.
But thats a far situation from yours, you may lose your appitite, be distracted and not being able to sleep but you will get over it and youll be fine. we all have been there and we all survived

Well there is some disagreement on this but in general yes it can be. Some people think it's rather a collection of symptoms than a specfic illness but there can be little doubt that the emotional stress can produce physical symptoms:
-A perceived tightness of the chest, similar to an anxiety attack
-Stomach ache and/or loss of appetite
-Partial or complete insomnia
-Short/Long term paralysis
Obviously it causes alot of psychological problems like depression too if left unchecked. My advice would be that you need to speak to somebody about how you are feeling and go from there; if you start feeling really bad then you will need to see a doctor. Good luck.

I would not say that a broken heart is an illness, it is something that we all go through at some point in our lives. At least in this situation you are looking at the reality, the reality that you will never be with him. I know its hard, and at the moment if feels like the end of the world, but i can assure you that things will get better, time is the healer of all pain.
All the best & good luck x
