Hi Everyone,

My husband and I just started trying to get pregnant and a friend keeps telling me that it is going to take a long time as it took her about 9 months. Iwent online and printed my ovulation calendar and practiced before and during my ovulation period. I am due for my period in exactly one week from today and I have all the normal symptons of getting my period. Headaches, cramps, sore breasts, irritability, sensitivity and the pre period pimple. Does anyone know any early signs of pregnancy or any advice on how to become pregnant? Can I still be pregnant and have all the symptons of getting my period? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am a smoker, will that decrease my chance of getting pregnant? Thank you all.

Hi all, thanks for your input. My husband is not a smoker and he has always wore boxers. I know my writing is a bit premature. We've started trying right after my last period and I'm due for my next one in 5 days. I'm experiencing the usual normal PMS symptoms and was wondering if I could still be pregnant? I have sore breasts, headaches, backaches, cramps, irritability. I really didn't tell anyone because I don't want to asked every week if I'm pregnant. I know sensitivity to smell was one of the early signs of pregnancy and I've been noticing that my smell senses are stronger, but my taste buds haven't changed and nothing has made me sick of feel sick. So I think that because I want to get pregnant, I am taking every little thing and thinking it could be a sign of pregnancy. The waiting and wondering is very hard and I don't know how people do it. I had a pregnancy test in my closet that expired in 2006. I knew I had to throw it away so I took the test first. Came up negative. Firefighter's wife 09 you didn't bore me. I thank you all again for your input. I will have to try not to think about it.

I was off my birth control in May of 08 in July we started trying! Don't tell anyone you are trying for some reason it is a curse! Just tell everyone you are practicing and go into with that state of mind! You want to conceive knowing you had fun doing it not because a calendar said you had to do it! My LMP was August 26th I was supposed to start on Sept 26 and I took a test 2 days later because I had no cramps no PMS no nothing except for the god awful pain in my breasts! It was excruciating!

Now I'm not expert! But no amount of orange juice and no type of underwear will make your chances high or low! I do believe in God and I think its up to him when you get pregnant! I am not trying to preach though!

I smoked and so did my hubby! He wears boxer briefs and drinks tons of hot coffee! All books say that is bad!lol

The sperm will hit that egg when they are good and ready!

Now if you try or should I say practice for more than say 3 to 5 months you should see your doc to rule out any serious issues such as pcos and to make sure his swimmers are swimmin!

I'm probably gonna get a lot of slack from people on here but to start out I'm in my 6th month and baby is healthy and normal! I smoke every once in a while! It is very difficult to stop when your husband is also a smoker and seeing as how my doc is an hour and a half away, hubby will have a cigarette in the truck and I will too! However I do not advise more than a few a day or even a week if you can stand it as smoking a lot(as in a pack a day or more) is one of the leading causes of low birth weight in babies! And don't let anyone tell you the amniotic sac fills up with smoke and chokes the baby. There is no possible way! The baby gets its oxygen from the red blood cells that travel from you to the cord to the baby. Smoking will constrict the blood vessels for a short period of time and make it a little bit harder for the baby to get oxygen but not enough to do serious long term damage!

I know I sound like a TV ad or something but I wish someone would have told me all this before I got pregnant! Another thing about his sperm! There are a couple different types of sperm! I learned this researching before I got prego! There are baby makin sperm and then there are "killer" sperm the sperm that are there to make sure the other ones don't get to make a baby! And the longer a man goes without uhm depleting his stock lol the more the stale not so smart sperm build up! Meaning there is actually less of a chance for you to get pregnant!

When you ovulate which should be about 15 days after the first day of your period have sex like 3 days is a row!

I hope I didn't bore you! You can look the whole killer sperm thing up on google just type in why men masturbate or something of that nature!

Get the what to expect when you are expecting book it is the pregnancy bible! It has stuff to do pre conception too not just how the baby develops!

Good luck and I'm sorry again if I bored you to death! Just have fun with it! Make the day you conceive a fun day!

Both my wife and I smoked and have three fine children. The best way to get pregnant is to have relaxed sex when you feel like it.

Don't worry about charts, what type of underwear. It doesn't matter whether he shoots like a sperm whale or dribbles as long as he is fertile. Take no notice of what other people tell you, just do it when you feel like and things will happen quite naturally. After all, people have been having babies for quite a few thousand years or so.
