A female United Kingdom age 41-50, *oraemoon writes:

I have been with my partner for 17 months now, he is 7 years younger than me and has had a past life of sex and parties, he has lied to me about his past, and a phone call he made to his ex apparently just for a chat, she's also confirmed this but I'm so worried he is ringing and texting other girls from his work phone, and possibly cheated on me even though he says he would never cheat, its dirty. What do I do?

A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (1 July 2010):

DrPsych agony auntThe relationship was over at the point at which you stop trusting him - whether he actually cheated or not is irrelevant. You cannot carry on living this way without bringing your own mental health to the floor with the worry and anxiety. You shouldn't feel the need to check on him, verify his account of things or any of that stuff - if you do, you don't trust him and the relationship has no future. Get yourself down the GP for a sexual health check in case he did cheat and tell him goodbye.
