writes:Okay, this is an extremely complicated issue. I've been dating my bf for 2 monthes now, and we've been having sex. We ended up having unprotected sex and I've found out that im pregnant. The thing is I'm 17 and he's 25 and in North Dakota it is illegal for an adult to have sex with a minor. I promised my parents i'd stay a virgin and not have sex with him, so i dont know how they are going to react about this. How can i tell them without them getting angry at him and turning him in.

 Also, each state has an "age of consent." Although you are still a minor, if you are over the age of consent then it is harder to prosecute someone. In my state, I believe it is 15 y/o but I could be wrong. Parents can still prosecute even if their child is over the age of consent but it is much harder.

Tell your parents, now!
At this point, you should not be worried about if your parents will be angry. You are far beyong breaking a promise of being a virgin so tell them now. You need their help and support with this issue. I wouldnt worry about the legal issues either, you are 17. If you were to keep it, you will propbably be 18, a legal adult.
I know how scared you are right now but you need to tell someone. If you have an older sister or aunt that you feel more comfortable with then you could talk to them fist. At the end of the day, you need your parents on this one!

reader, anonymous, writes (5 June 2008): You need to tell your parents today, dont wait any longer. Have you decided if you want to keep the baby, or have it and have it adopted or have an abortion. You both need to decide right now, before anymore time passes by. You will have to run the risk of getting him into trouble, but you both should of used protection. It is no use getting annoyed at you now, you are pregnant and nothing can change that, except an abortion, which is isnt too late to have. Best of luck and mail me if you want. I got pregnant at the age of 17, had an abortion and it was the best thing for me, but i am not saying that is what you should do.

reader, anonymous, writes (5 June 2008): Tell your parents, and tell them quickly. If you leave it to long you will cut off some of your options. You need to tell them and ask for their support, you have no other options. What about the guy, what can he do to help, have you told him about the baby?

It isn't that difficult to just slip a condom and it stops a hell of a lot of lives being ruined. You're old enough to know better and you can do nothing but deal with consequences of your actions now.
