A female reader, asdfg United States +, writes (7 April 2010):

I had an experience with this recently. I had weird feelings that my bf was cheating on me (and some evidence to back it up), and then I dreamt that he and I were standing by a swimming pool with a plastic sheet on top of it, and he just pushed me in and I suffocated and died.

...as it turns out, he was cheating on me, but I suppose that's beside the point.

Anyway, like some of the others have said, it's a subconscious thing, at least according to psychoanalytic psychology. This is something Freud always believed, though it's still up for debate even today.

I think it is showing insecurities in yourself, it may stem from past relationships in your life.

If you can find the cause where it went wrong for you and face those fears then the dreaming should stop.
