I'm experiencing pregnancy-like symptoms... Help!

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm really confused and would benefit from any answers i receive on this following situation.

I had unprotected sex 4 weeks ago, since then i've experienced pregnancy-like symptoms. This includes; bloating, fatigue, cramping (often mild but sometimes very strong), light brown spotting (approx 4 days after intercourse), dizzy spells and so on.

However, before this event of 'unprotected sex' i had still been experiencing cramping, perhaps an indication i conceived earlier?

My situation is that as a result of these symptoms i have been convinced of being pregnant. Therefore, went to have a test done at a local clinic, this was performed using a 'pregnancy strip' and came out as negative but the woman also claimed that it was too early to be having a test done and may not be accurate.

I was 4 days late, then started my period which made me convinced that i was not pregnant afterall (much of a relief i must add...) but the bleeding appears heavier than usual which has caused some concern. Also, there was an event coming up and i did not want to be on a period so i took a pill (which is to be taken daily and will immediately stop and delay your period until you stop taking it) however it failed on this occasion.

I'm really confused. Why am i still experiencing pregnancy symptoms when i am on a period? and why wouldnt the pill stop my unusually heavy period?
