It's NORMAL to occasionally have bleeding in-between periods. It's called having an irregular period if it happens often. But other times it happens just rarely, and you are otherwise having steady periods. It is not a sign of pregnancy (missing your period however can be a sign of pregnancy). But, missing, or experiencing an extra period (that lasts for several days even) is often related to stress. It is also often related to hormones. If you keep MISSING your period you should see your doctor and check your hormone levels, maybe get you started on extra estrogen. But as for one day of extra bleeding... No need to worry. And no need to assume there must be something wrong with you either. It's normal. It happens. Besides, it sounds like blood that has been left in you since your last period. Blood that is very dark is old blood. That's why it gets that colour.

Sometimes women have implantation bleeding (when you are pregnant)
some women bleed when they ovulate
some women have "breakthrough bleeding"
some women bleed from rough sex
the ONLY way for you to know what's going on is to see a doctor....
they are used to it and there is no reason to worry that they will judge you. In addition, it's PROBABLY nothing serious but you can't tell without speaking to the doctor.
My best advice in the case of all medical questions is to consult a qualified medical professional.

Consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist. Anytime something is out of the ordinary with your body it's always a good idea to check in with a doctor. The dark dark blood can be symptoms of all kind of issues (some are not serious so please don't freak) - hormonal changes, infections, some birth controls and some medications (if you take any) can be the reason. So GO get checked out. Don't guess about this, just go.
And if you don't drink a lot of fluids during the day... drink plenty of water.

It might be nothing to worry about but even if there was a qualified doctor here they couldn't tell you without seeing you to examine you. There is no reason to feel embarrassed about going because it's their job you just need to be a responsible adult now and think of your health. Best wishes
