Snowbird covered it pretty well, i would say meet up with friends first (like on a friday night) then you can get to know her a little bit better out of school/work/the internet (not sure where you chat to her) and if it goes well, then ask her to go to the cinema, or something else where its just the 2 of you. Ive found that always works best, because if you just meet up you might both be a little akward around each other because its the first time and having other people there means if you get a silent spot you can talk to other people, same for her, then go on to the 'alone' things ;). Good Luck with her :)

Why don't you ask her if she would like to go for a coffee, or to the pictures?
If you are too nervous, make it with a group of yours and her friends, like a social gathering. It will be easier for both of you to get to know one another with an easy-going crowd around you, and no pressure on either of you.
If that goes well, you could tell her what a fun time you had, and ask her if she is free to do it again sometime. This way you can both take it at a slow pace, and get to know her on more of a one-to one basis.
I wish you luck, and hope this helps you. Let me know how you go on!
