I'd like to spend more time with him but I don't know how to go about it

I'm friends with a guy I play sports with, we weren't close at all at first but we started talking and now it's a daily thing. We've bought each other Christmas presents and he's told me a fair bit of stuff about his family etc. which isn't normal for him. He's suggested things we can do as a sports group but not with me alone. I don't know if he just doesn't like me or he's cautious as my mum is one of our coaches? I really would like to spend more time with him but I don't know how to go about it?
