It depends on the site.. a couple of tips if at glance you cannot tell whether someone on the site is signed up or not (usually called "full member" or gold memeber") then the most likely scenario is that the site has too few paying members and if you sign up and start sending emails you quiet likely not to get any replies.. another giveaway for the rip off sites is photo's - if a site has lots of "members" with only one photo (people either put in photo's or no photo) very few people which actually have only one photo so the truth is this type of site is probably a rip off site and if you sign on you (as non paying member) will get loads of "emails" from beautiful potential partners who are so "keen" to speak to you but then once you've started paying will suddenly lose all interest... thats because these people never existed the pictures are harvested and the profiles are made up to make the sites seem more busy than they are... if you sign up you to one of these you will probably be one the of the few that is actually a "for real"

I wouldn't say that an adult dating service is a rip off. What they do is charge you a fee to give you what your looking for a date.

mommyofthree agony auntJust make sure you go with a reputable site. Though some sites cost less they can notonly be a rip off but also dangerous. When you pick a site make sure they don't give out too much of your personal informaion, have seen some that give out almost everything to it's members. Also, try to see how long the other members have been there, you don't want to get stuck on a site that has nothing but expired memberships and you there all alone. I agree with the 1st answer Adult Friend Finder is a big one, and a well known name like that tends to suggest less chance of being ripped off. Good luck in your search.

harshbutfair agony auntSome are, some aren't. Try adultfriendfinder, which is the biggest on the web. Don't forget that many will charge you monthly so you will need to cancel your billings if you don't want to use it anymore!
