I really love him.. but am scare to tell him in case he doesnt take it seriously

hiya well my life is really wiered at the min because im really in love with this guy and he just thinks i like him but i would not be askin this if i just fancied him i truley love him hes been the onmly thing ive thought about for the last 8 months but is it all worth it because so many people are saying he does i mean weve been out to town loadz of times and i no its sounds really stupid but i sometimes think he mite like me and im so scared to ask him if he likes me because he is the sort of person who doesnt really take anything seriousl he just likes a laugh so what do i do people say they know he likes me even his best m8 thinks so but should i give up because if i do im givin up on all love please help me i dont no what to do at all thanks a lot xxx

You can't know whether you love someone that much unless you've been in a romantic relationship with them. There's a certain level of intimacy you need to attain, because otherwise you're just filling in all the cracks you don't know about him with daydreams and idealizations. It doesn't sound like you two have moved past the friend stage, so if you're really worried about whether he'll take your avowal of true loooooooooove seriously, you might want to work up to it with some dating or even the much, much easier admission that you fancy him. Generally, to avoid embarassment, you should only give out the old "I love you" when you're quite sure the other person will say it back and mean it.
