We have known each other for a little while; she used to go out with one of my friends, but they recently broke up under some less than friendly circumstances. Now she sits next to me in class and we are always talking and I've noticed that she stares at me when I'm taking notes or listening to a lecture (I know, however, that she's not looking for notes, she's staring at me). When I see her in the halls or with a group of her friends she is always looking at me or looking away from her friends at me. Recently, she asked me to walk around with her and two friends of hers (two girls i had already met) we spent a couple of hours just hanging out, but this is what bothers me. I don't know if she wants to just be friends or something more; I feel like we really connect and I want to ask her out but don't want there to be any awkward feelings between us if she says no.Thanks for any help!

You probabley already no this but there is only one way to find out. Ask her. If she like and want's to go out with you then great. If she doesn't and just wants to be friends then in may be akward for a few days but as long as your honest and she's a nice as you think she is then it should be fine.
I hope this helps x
