writes:I am such a dork around this boy i like. i get these moments of confidence when i walk towards him and smile, and get eye contact but then very obviously chicken out as soon as i open my mouth to start a conversation. He must think i'm such an idiot.. . he's a really cool and confident person, that always seems so sure of everything. surely he likes confident girls too. please give me some advice on how to "play it cool" around him and get his attention (in a good way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) ???

 OK, so you've got problems starting a conversation. So keep up the eye contact, give him a nice smile, and maybe raise an eyebrow a little. Let him know, in short, that you're interested but that HE is going to have to come to YOU if he wants to get something going. Keep that up for a while, with warmer "I've got a secret" smiles, and sooner or later he'll just HAVE to talk to you just to find out what's up with the smiles.Women can say more non-verbally than they can if they open their mouths. Use that to your advantage.

reader, anonymous, writes (25 March 2007): first off, do you have any classes with him?, if so then talk about that class and homework or make a crack about the teacher to get him laughing. If not, when you hear him and his friends talk about something that you can jump in on in a conversation dont hesitate to join. If your shy I would suggest waiting until his friends leave to get a moment alone with him and talk about whatever the conversation was about. Another way to look confident (i personally think) is to limit makeup, to me it says that you dont need a cover up to hide behind. Keep your words organized so you dont throw out a jumble of phrases at him and sound nervous lol but basically keep a positive state of mind, dont care about what else is going on in the background just get to the point lol by doing this you look so confident. After you talk to him for a couple of times it will all come naturally but the first time is the most important and hardest time of all. Dont worrybest of luck!
