writes: Hi, this question is about the pill. Please answer as I'm very anxious. I started my packet of diannette last Friday week (23rd november) as usual after my 7 day break. I had sex on the saturday night with my boyfriend (without a condom) and I missed a pill on the Tuesday due to being at work. I was 14 hours late taking the missed pill. what is the chance of me getting pregnant? I am very worried as I dont want a baby and Im only 18.Also I rang the family planning clinic and the woman reckoned that Im safe as I missed the pill 3 days after having sex. she said I didnt need the morning after pill. yet I read in the booklet that there is a particularly high risk of pregnancy if the pill is missed in the first week. please help!!

leanne o'd: that is what the family planning clinic said, but it says on the internet and in the leaflet that ''there is a particularly high risk if pills are missed in the first &third week'' so Im thinking they mean if you miss a pill within 7 days?? as sperm can live that long? can you tell me if this is right because Im kind of freaking out worrying about it.

Had you have had sex on the day you missed your pill, there would be a high chance of pregnancy but you missed the pill 3 days after you had intercourse, therefore you were protected on the day you had sex. the protection would have been in place until you failed to take it on the tues, it was only the tues night you were not protected.
hope that has made sense.
