I have always thaught they were stretch marks and my mum and gran have never seen them because i never wear shorts, and when i wear a skirt, i wear tights. And only today have i started wearing shorts, because i have decided to give my legs a chance ( ive always thaught they were horible and fat )..I was walking up the stairs and my mum behind me, and she saw my legs and she said oh my god, let me see ur legs and i got scared.. and she said you've got varicose veins and i said i thaught they were stretch marks and she showed me stretch marks on her leg, and i soon realised otherwise. I know its down to poor circulation and i need to lose weight.. The veins are blue purple however they dont stick out, but i have a lump which is blue purple (small lump) in the middle of 1 ov ma long veins.. What should i do, i will make an apointment for the docs, but im goin to florida in 2 weeks and now i know what they are, could i have them removed in such short time? i do have private care or whatever it is.. pls help x x x

reader, anonymous, writes (4 July 2007): im 21 and i have the exact same thing; i dont have the blue/purple veins but i do have 2 little lumps in the main vein on my right thigh. i find them unsightly and can understand your discomfort about them. you can have a number of treatments done on them; the most usual one is having the skin just above the lump cut and a layer of the vein burned away. it heals quite quickly and doesnt generally cause particularly bad discomfort. normally a doctor wont see it necessary to do this unless it causes you problems or pain, but if you can get private treatment, you shouldnt have a problem getting a proceedure done to reduce the lump. as for the blue veins, im not familiar with the treatment to reduce their appearance but your doctor can run you through the options. im sure you can have a treatment arranged fairly quickly and the lump-reducing proceedure shouldn't last long at all. i hope this helps x
