A female United Kingdom age 26-29, anonymous writes:

Hypothetically, guys, if you knew someone had a crush on you or fancied you, and you weren't taking it seriously, would you start to take it seriously if they told you they loved you and meant it? I don't mean start to like them, I just mean be a bit more considerate before you disregard them completely? And if you have ever had someone tell you they love you, how did it make you feel??

I am asking you completely hypothetically. I have no plans to announce my love to anyone in the near future.

Thank you!!

No, I would probably take it less seriously. It comes off too desperate when coming from a girl. A guy saying that in this context usually means he just wants to get in your pants.

chigirl agony auntI told my friend of 8 years that I love him. He took it seriously, gave it about a week to think about it, and then announced he loved me too. We actually had our first kiss after we had both said "I love you" to one another.

So.. you never know what might happen. I had actually told this particular friend that I loved him on a previous occasion, but was too shy to say it directly to his face, and he didn't think I actually did love him. So the way you say it will count into how seriously he will take it.

So_Very_Confused agony auntNo dear he won't take her seriously. If anything it would backfire.

He will laugh at her if not to her face, then behind her back to his friends... who will tell their friends then they will tell girlfriends and within a few days the whole school is giggling behind her back while a few friends comfort her in her utter embarrassment. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.

Besides a person doesn't love a crush. they love the idea of the crush. The love the idea of being in a couple of being in love with the crush... but they can't truly love them they don't really know them.

I have a crush on someone at the moment, and if they told me they loved me, I would be happy & calm. There are lots of types of love, and even if they just meant they were love sick at least I would know we both felt the same way at the beginning of whatever else happened!!

Someone unexpectedly told me they loved me once, it was too late and if I had only heard those words a few months earlier .....it will always be an "if only" moment, but if someone really loved you they would move heaven and earth to make things right. I think I come out on the if you love them tell them side, the more love going around the better!
