How to start a long term relationship?

The next girl you fancy ask her out instead of befriending her. It's that simple really, just make your relationship with them romantic from the start. As far as long term relationships go better to learn to crawl before you walk so always approach girls you like with the intention of going on a date with them, nothing more and then take it from there. if she's nice and interested set up a second date and so on.
