writes: I worked for a small company for many years and was always a hard worker. Yet constantly overlooked because of nepotism. Recently a new boss took over and made other people full time. But not I and others who have worked there for years. When I asked all I got was lies and my days reduced. So much for working hard.

reader, anonymous, writes (8 November 2013): You just need to find somewhere else to work. They have all the power and you have none so you will always get the short end of the stick.
You could try ingratiating yourself with the bosses and trying to become part of their little inner circle. I know a lot of people who built their entire careers this way. I cannot bring myself to do it, it feels disgusting to me, but many people apparently have no problems playing politics to get ahead. If you can stomach it, then it is worth a shot.

Use your time off the job to look for a better one. Take your time and find one you will enjoy and that offers you the hours you want.
