How long should I leave it before telling my ex I have someone new?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I would like to know peoples opinion, especially males on what is a good amount of time to make it known that you are dating someone new, if you broke up with someone and remain friends with them. I don't want to hurt this person, but I want to move on. So what ever your opinion is, I want to know. A week? A month? A year?

I am not especially close friends with this person, so I can keep relationship out of sight for them.

They really liked me and I ended it as to not be the bad guy (girl?) in the end because my feelings where not mutual.

Anyway any advice would be nice.
