She visits frequently (once a month), but do I end it now like over the internet or in person when she comes to visit. One is impersonal, one requires me faking being interested for a month. In this case it is more practical to be impersonal, no? Please advise.

I think you should say something to her already now instead of faking interest for a month. You can say you feel this is hard and that you're thinking about that it can't work out for you and that you and her will talk about it next time she comes (if she still wants then).
Is it possible for you to go see her? Then you could say that you need to see her and talk to her already now and then go and have it done with.
Good luck, and keep us posted!

If you finish with her on the phone or over the internet at least she hasnt lost out financially coming over to be told the news and wasting her money. Depends how much respect you have for her. I'ts long distance so at least you won't be bumping into her. A year isnt a long time to be with someone, she may even have a sense of relief if things havent been going good anyway, the other partner always knows. good luck
