writes: Hey there,Well my boyfriend and I fought a few times one night while we were drinking and then it carried on through the next day. Ever since then, he's been sligtly rude to me and sometimes acts like he knows EVERYTHING. He jokes around with me, but his jokes are really hurtful. LIke, he'll call me a slut, or a skank...call me a little bitch....but don't forget....he's only "joking". How do I handle this?.... Reply to this Question

reader, anonymous, writes (19 December 2006): Tell him straight you do not like it and can he please stop. If he doesn't then say you can't go on like this. You feel degraded and belittled by his words, they may be jokes to him but they aren't to you and that should matter.
It you are not happy and he doesn't change then get rid. Life is too short!!!

Learn to talk that’s how, tell him u don’t appreciate his jokes they might be fun for him but to u are insulting, I mean really u don’t deserve such treatment even if it’s a joke. Stop making excuses for him how do you know if he is really joking? Do u think with the way u love him it will be easy for u to call him insulting names just for fun? I don’t think so it won’t feel right unless u mean them, so if he feels the same way about u why is it so easy for him to insult u jokingly? Are u aware that there are some people who will hurt u with a smile on their face? He might be one of those people so be careful and open ur eyes.

 Handle it by telling him you won't accept his name-calling...how old is he? Doesn't sound terribly mature. One strategy would be to call him names back but it will just end up in a slanging match. Just make it clear you don't find the 'joke' funny...or turn it around...tell him if he thinks his girlfriend is a 'skank' or 'slut' then what exactly does that say about him and his taste in women?
