writes: My boyfriend has genital herpes and it's freaking my out. He's got a sore at the moment and, everytime he gets one, I get more paranoid about catching it. We've been together for 6 months and always use protection. How contagious is herpes? Can it be caught when he hasn't got a sore? Should I let him touch me down there when he has one on his penis (I usually make him wash his hands.)?

reader, anonymous, writes (7 October 2006): well as a nurse i am going to tell u the honest truth. genital herpes is a very contagious disease. and honey it is not curable. it can be painful if not treated during an outbreak. and yes it is contagious even if there are no sores present. condoms can help prevent catching the STI (sexually transmitted infection) but always remember, if u contact the disease from ur partner, it is not curable, but u and ur partner are taking the right precautions right now, and some one who is infected can live a great and normal life. if u have more concerns, please see ur family doctor, or go to a private STI clinic and speak with a nurse who specializes in STI's. or even search the internet. u can find a lot of usefull information.

reader, anonymous, writes (4 October 2006): its very bad even a cold sore can lead to you getting it he needs to go to gui clinic or his doctor if you go with him they will give you a fact sheet aswell
