A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Well I dont know quite how to start out with my question. I guess I just need some advice. Well, I guess you could say I kinda have feelings for a guy I dont know at all. See, I work at a pharmacy and there is this guy who came into my work about a month ago. He isnt normally the type of guy I find attractive but I found myself attracted to him when I first saw him.

We ended up talking for a few minutes but not about anything personal but he was an extremely nice guy. Well he came in again a few weeks ago and I saw him. We did not talk for he probably did not even remember me or care, and I was very busy at work but he did smile.

Ever since then I find myself thinking about him often, but not obessively. I dont know him or anything about him, not even his name, but i do know everytime I come into work I wish i would see him.

I hope I dont sound stupid, but how can I have feelings for a stranger?, is it even feelings or just curiousity? Could any of this possibly mean something significant? I just need someone who can help me find out why I feel the way i do.

I know that this probably is a simple question most people would be able to answer it for themselves but for me these feelings are out of the ordinary. It isnt like me to feel this way.It takes a lot and a long time for me to develop feelings for someone.

A female reader, happytochat Australia +, writes (6 June 2008):

Its very normal to have feelings for a stranger. What you are experiencing is a crush.

A crush is where you have feelings on someone who you dont know at all or know very little about, its where you build them up in your head, they are like a fantasy really. What you are crushing over is the ideal version of them. You imagine what they are like and you jump to assumptions about the type of person they are (i.e. he/she is sooooo nice!). Its quite similar to crushing on a celebrity, you dont know them at all, what you do know is they are attractive and talented and you imagine that they are this brillient person if you got the chance to meet them in real life.

So I dont think it means anything 'significant' as such. Hope this has helped you understand your feelings better.
