I'd figure just meeting new people would greatly increase your chances, so go out and do things with new people and what not when ever you can. 'Tis what I'm gonna try at least... hopefully I'll meet someone at school this year :P Good luck

reader, anonymous, writes (29 July 2008): I'm in an almost identical position. I'd say just keep an open mind and take advantage of any good opportunities that arise. Going to clubs, bars, etc. doesn't work that well in my experience so I'd just adopt a laid-back approach until a potential romantic interest turns up. I know it can be tough but, at the end of the day, patience is paramount.
