How can I delay or prevent my period?

Question - (13 March 2009) 3 Answers - (Newest, 13 March 2009)
A female Canada age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I've been on birth control for 2 months now. And I know that my period is becoming regularized because, in the second month I was only a day delayed, but given that, I figured in April, that's when I get my period, that I will have it on time.

Problem is, I realized that I can't have it that weekend, which is April 3-5 because that is when my boyfriend, and I are going out of town to celebrate our anniversary.

My question is, how can I delay my period? I still want it, but just not the beginning time.

I was wondering, if I skip a couple days of my bcp, and begin again, will that delay my period?

What can I do to prevent it for those days?

My period begins on a Thursday, and ends 4-5 days later.

jessica04 agony auntShe was on Ortho Tri Cyclin I believe, or something like it. Jsut a 4 week pack, that gave her one week a month for her period.

It can take a while you your body to regulate, and you may have spotting if you try this method. I myself have tried it, and it does work, but it might not be iron clad for you, as in your spotting might vary. I didn't have spotting, but I had been on for a year on Tri Cyclin Lo.

It will throw off your cycle only for the pill week you're taking, as in you will have 2 periods in one month, but when you go back to your normal schedule, your period will regulate again. At least it did for me.

This is verified as being by the original poster of the question

The pills are Alesse.

So I guess they are combined?

Jessica: Was your sister taking it awhile before she was able to do this? Or was she just beginning to like myself, because my doctor told me that my body will try and regularize in the first 3 months, so am I able to still do that? Or will it throw my cycle off??

jessica04 agony auntDo not skip any days. At all. Your risk of pregnancy goes up greatly if you do.

Follow along with me, hopefully I can explain this without it getting confusing. My sister did this for her honeymmoon, she was in the same positiona s you.

When you finish your third week of pills (assuming you're on a 4 week pill pack), skip the period pills, and move on to the next set of Week 1 pills in your next pack. Save the Period pills that you are skipping.

After the Week 1 pills run out, take the previous months' Period pills. It means you will go 4 weeks with no period, and then have a period.

After you finish the Period Pills, start on the Week 2 pills from the new pack as though normal. Let me diagram, I really want this to be clear

Pack A, Week 3 pills

Pack B Week 1 pills

Pack A Period Pills

Pack B Week 2 pills

Pack B Week 3 pills

Pack B Period Pills

My sisters gyno actually approved this for her, but you don't want to rely on this a whole lot. And please, still use a condom for added safety, and even a condom safe spermicide.
