What does "hooking up" mean these days?

Long ago, being "hooked" meant being married.

But now, does it mean immediate physical relationship?

hooking up has alot of different meanings. like to hang out with as friends, or go out with thm. it also can mean to make-out. one time my b/f asked me that and i thought it meant to hang out, but he meant hooking up as in making out (french kiss).

Nikita agony auntHi Anon,

I have a friend who says that. She'll say, 'we'll have to hook up sometime and do this or do that' It just means to get together with someone and do stuff. Doesnt have to mean you're married or having a relationship. Its quite a general term.
