Start slow and just shave carefully the bikini line, going with the direction of the hair. Trim the main part with small scissors to either a desired length, or short enough that you can shave it as well.
When you feel more comfortable, you can very carefully prop one leg up and hold the labia majora and shave the outside. Just do short strokes. When you feel even more comfortable, you can shave a little bit on the inside part that can sometimes have a stray hair or two.
Be very careful, make sure you are holding soft skin nice and taut. I find it so much easier to shave while in the shower, though I cannot shave my lady bits more than once every 4 days, otherwise it gets a bit chapped. Use a good razor, like 4-5 blades, but nothing that has those impossibly huge lotion strips surrounding the razor. They make it hard to see what you're doing. Also, I just get the water nice and hot, but forgo the shaving cream when your shaving right near the vagina, since you want to see waht you're doing.
Be careful, good luck!

Go somewhere that does waxing and ask for your bikini line to be done. Once it's done, just shave or tweeze that area, everywhere else just give a trim to keep it neat!
