I'm disappointed that my boyfriend doesn't masterbate

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I know this probably gets asked all the time but hre goes.

I found out earlier that my boyfriend, (we're both only 16 and have never had sex), doesn't masterbate. I'm sure LOTS of guys don't but it really bothered me that he doesn't. With my last serious boyfriend we used to talk about it and well, do it over each other and with my current boyfriend i feel i can't because he doesn't. Can someone tell me what percentage of men do, and what percentage don't? (Just so i know if it's normal).

This is because one of my favourite fantasies is, genreally whoever i'm with, getting tunred on thinking about me. Is it likely he doesn't because he has no sex drive? I'm worried he doesn't because he has an erectile dyfunction or something ( inkow that's probably an odd conclusion to jump to). He asked me if i thought any less of him because of it and obviously i don't. I was just really dissapointed to be honest.

Any opinions or advice would be great :)

ChristineAvril agony auntAw, "person", you stole my thunder! I was about to give those percentages, and the bit about lying - that's the way I'd always heard it.

Kinsey thinks differently, hmm?

Ok, they usually get it right, even if it does spoil a good joke!

I do agree with you on the initiation of things with the bf, though - go for it......

YouWish agony auntLOL... I bet the conversation you had with your boyfriend that brought up this subject was interesting. :D

You: "Dear,*kiss* what do you want to do this weekend?"

Him: "Oh, I don't know hun, how about we go to a movie or out to Italiana Restauranta?"

You: "What?? I thought for sure you were going to suggest Masturbation and Eggs over easy!"

Him: "Well I NEVER!"

Don't worry if he doesn't indulge in the little "hairy-palms hobby". Unless he's dead, he's got a libido the size of Alaska. You should be okay. :)

A female reader, person12345 United States +, writes (26 May 2010):

person12345 agony auntThis is actually kind of the opposite of the normal masturbation question. Many women are upset when their boyfriend DOES masturbate. Most men masturbate. And even if he doesn't on his own, doesn't mean he wouldn't be willing to masturbate with you. I'm pretty sure he HAS masturbated at some point. Just ask him to with you. I'm sure he'd be happy to oblige. Or better yet, why don't you give him a hand job? I'm guessing he doesn't out of respect for you or because he thinks sex should be between two people. I don't think it's a lack of sex drive or erectile dysfunction. Some people masturbate, others don't.

As for percents, don't believe people who say "99% do, the other 1% lie." The Kinsey institute did a study (not on the internet, a real nationwide survey of people who weren't more likely to partake in an activity because they were on a volunteer online poll) that found that only 60% of men masturbate on a regular basis.
