A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm almost 16 and i was dating a 22 yr old, and he broke up with me because he didn't want to get in trouble for the age.

He wants to wait until i'm 17, but then he said he might not wait for me, and i shouldn't wait for it, but we can still be friends? What do i do??

A reader, anonymous, writes (18 June 2008):

well it all depends on where you live i guess. here in florida the ages are from 16-24. between there its ok.

but im sure if he really does like you then he will just wait. i know it hurts to hear that he wont wait for you but it kinda sounds like hes putting pressure on you to make you grow up faster. just be calm and see what happens.

good luck!!!

Nothing, you got to respect him. The laws are diffrent in america than here, but I know he can get into seriouse trouble so if you really like him, leave him alone

A male reader, anonymous, writes (18 June 2008):

I will never get why the age of consent is 18 over there. It's as though people magically become able to handle sex only upon reaching the magical 18.

The age of censent around my parts, Australia if you wanted to know, is 16.

And believe me, most people have already done it before that even.

It's still frowned upon, but half the 16 year olds I've encountered are as mature as any of the adults I know, and more so than some.

The human body wants to procreate the moment it is ready to do so, and it is really only in the mid 20th century onwards that this became a muddled issue. I mean some of the most pivotal characters in history were teenagers. Look at Joan of Arc. True, she didn't exactly end in the most desirable of manners, but she took on a much older person's responsibilities and became a legend.

Now, as to the guy. If the age gap is what is bothering him, then tell him to simply wait. You can date and pretty much anythign else but have sex. And if you do have sex, you really just need to keep your trap shut about it.

Whatever you do, do it responsibly and safely.
