However I've got quite pale skin, and my mam says that if i shave my legs my 'unnoticable' hairs will just get really dark, and that I should wait as long as possible. I want to wear socks, but what can I do as I feel really self-concious about my legs. Reply to this Question Share |

Actually Pete, I think us woman do the shaving for ourselves and for our benefit and to make ourselves feel good and be presented in the right way... its not for the guys!! Guys that insist girls shave are very shallow indeed, its up to the individual. So er thats your little attack Pete lol

Calm down willywombat... I hear ya! We all a have different view on it.. I spoke to my man about the subject, me being the blonde one can be a bit dim at times lol and hes pretty clever!! So he tells me that the reason they look darker is because its the blunt part of the hair so to speak... (he told it better with posh words but I will give it a stab) were they were fine and kind of downy hair so to speak they get chopped off when we shave hence, when the folicle grows back thats the bit you see first where as previous to shaving you wouldnt see it. Shaving enhances the look of hair as its the folicle that you see when it grows back so it gives the appearance that they are darker or thicker, when in fact its just the part of the hair that you wouldnt normally see, had the hair just been left in the first place. He too said that the pigment itself cannot change colour by shaving, (of course it cant,I knew that, i just knew my hairs were slightly darker now) and that the reason mine have got darker is due to my old age! lol
:o)

Right, ok. Lets just get some facts here. Indeed as you get older your hair may become darker or lighter all over your body. But this IS NOT related to shaving. Go find me some evidence then if you stand by your view! It is a physical impossibilty - yes they can become darker BUT NOT BECAUSE YOU SHAVE THEM!!!!!
Jeez....

Actually im blonde and the hairs on my legs have indeed got darker... It doesnt happen over night, and they havent gone black, but more of a light brown colour which actually now makes the hair on my legs more noticable! I dont think it matter when you start to shave your legs, If you have a few that are maybe just fair coloured then dont worry about it, no one is going to come up and inspect them, its only you that are concious about it. Once you do start shaving though the hair can grow back thicker, and appear that there is more of it, .. so i guess the longer you leave it before shaving the easier it will be in the long run. Do whats more comfortable for you, but once you start you need to continue, well you dont have to its up to you, but i guess it becomes more a beauty regime that you get used to doing.
Take care x

If you hairs on you legs are very light like a blonde colour shaving them could make them grow back darker therefor making them more noticable. But having said that, my mum she has blonde hair and she shaves her legs and her hairs dont seem to get darker. I guess it just depends...on something lol.
You can actually get depliatory cremes which are suppose to make the hair finer which will therefor not let them get darker and be more noticable. So if you are worried about them becoming more noticable use a depiltory creme instead of shaving. Oh and incase you don't know what a depilatory creme, its basicly just a creme you put over your legs (dont go using it in other places like on your facial hair etc...) and leave on for so many minutes- normally about 5-10 I think. And then you wash it off with a sponge and the hair should rub off with the sponge. But beware that if you the creme could casue some reaction to your skin and it may sting a tiny bit depending on what product you use. So always do a 'test patch' before you actually do it. By that i mean get a bit of the creme and put it on a bit of your leg and leave it there and wash it off and see if your skin reacts badly, if not then do all of your legs.
I woulnd't try waxing because that is worse then shaving as it will make the hairs even thicker.

Hello, there are several options you could try:
1. Shaving with a good razor i.e Venus by Gillette and dont forget to use shaving foam, also by Gilette use the one for sensitive skin as this protects your skin and keeps it like velvet
2. Epilating. I have a Philips epilator with a pain softnener. This is also good and the hairs dont grow back til after 3 weeks.
3. Waxing, can be painful but hair stays away for long time. Try the Nair wax strips, they are good.
4. Hair removal cream. Try one that you can leave on for about ten minutes then you either remove it with tepid water or with a spatula they provide.
I shave my legs with the Venus razor and regularly replace the blade so I dont get bumps. I also epiate every 3 months and shave just to get rid of some unwanted tiny hairs. You should buff your skin, not directly after of before epiliating but maybe 2 days after. This prevents hair from growing back so soon and it really works. Also I exfoliate my legs three to four times a week to remove any scars or bumbs and they stay smooth.
I hope this helps!!!! xXx

Your basic hair colour will NOT change just because you shave your legs! That would be a miracle of modern science indeed!
They may look slightly more noticable due to the being slightly blunter when they grow back (shaving cuts the hairs off at an angle). Why not use a depilatory cream or get them waxed...lasts longer.
But they will not grow back *darker* that is a fallacy.
