writes:I'll just dive right in. I am 14 years old and have never had a period before. But about 2 days ago I found a huge brown/bloody splotch on my underwear. I changed them and put on a pad just because. Then later that night nothing else had happened, the pad was clean. The next day the same thing. Now yesterday and today There has only been really light, brown discharge it doesn't even look bloody just brown. Any ideas about what's going on??

My daughter's first 4 periods were like this, just brown spotting. Even now sometimes they disappear for 3 months and once went on for more than a month of continuous bleeding. Sometimes huge liver like clots. Doc said all normal. I was the same. Your periods for the first 5 years will be irregular. Welcome to the monthlies!!

reader, anonymous, writes (23 December 2009): its okay. i had a discharge fer like 2 years before i got my period and i got it in ocotber this year and i havent had it since but im sure its juust your period coming on. after a while the blood will turn brownish. its natural.
