 If your sex life isn't to your satisfaction then you and your boyfriend need to work on keeping both of you content. No matter what the "norm" is in his head. Who cares how often others have sex, what matters is that YOU want more sex!
Personally I'd be wanting no less than at least 5-6 times a week after no matter how many years. And if my partner had as high of a sex drive as me then I don't think we'd slow down just because it's "natural".
As for the natural part, I don't know about that being true. You either let the sex life fall into a rut or you don't. Me and an ex were going on the second year like bunnies. Falling into a rut is not something that is bound to happen, it is something you LET happen. Your boyfriend seems perfectly happy with less sex, you don't. So thats the problem, now you need to talk to him and sort this out to a way where you can both be satisfied.
