Does my mom have cancer?

A female , anonymous writes:

I am very upset and keep crying. My mother had blood work done and urine as well recently. She is 60 years old..they found blood in her urine..they tested again and still found blood. They did a urine culture. He said it was bacteria but not a UTI which i thought was weird b/c i thought usually if there is bacteria, it is a UTI.

So my first question is--if it isn't a UTI but there is bacteria what is it? I always thought a UTI was bacteria of some kind? :( He was saying it could be stones (but she has no pain) or a polyp. Is he looking for cancer?? :(

He wants to perform a sonogram of bladder and kidneys just to make sure and see where the bacteria is coming from. He said it could go away on it's own but it is better to know. So him saying that made it seem it wasn't 110% necessary for the sonogram. My friend who is a nurse said she thinks he is just ordering tests to use the insurance company.

Also--my mother has had a major change in her gas lately..it is happening alot more frequently and i read online it is a major sign of ovarian cancer. :(

I am very scared now. She is getting a pap done as well. I don't want her to be sick. I keep reading how this is a symptom and she has had this change for about a year now. She hasn't had a pap in a few years. I need my mother still :(

Has anyone had experience with this or know anything about it?

Dear Mandy agony auntHi

Please try not to worry yourself sick over this, I am sure it is something very treatable. Reading up symptms online is the wrong thing to do, there is so many causes for this that your bound to only read the negative's and worry more. Blood in the urine can be caused by many things, even internal thrush can cause this. So can I.B.S ( irritable bowel syndrome) And straning , as in she may hae pulled a muscle around the uterous .I am sure if it was something more sinister her Dr would tell her as she would have the right to know. If you are worried that this Dr is trying to get more money from his insurance raher than get to the route cause of your mothers problem, get a second opinion from another Dr. Either way you worrying far too much before knowing what is causing this, will end up making yourself ill too, and you will be no help for your mother like this. If however it does turn out to be some form of cancer, there is so much the Dr's can do today.Medication, along with chemo and sometimes radiotherepy can all br great if caught in time, with the support from yourself and the medical staff there is no reason why this would turn out bad. My sister in-laws father had cancer of the lympthnoid glands, which is all over your body, this can be extremely life threatening, However he had chemo/radiotherepy and it went into ressession, this was 15 years ago. In your mothers case I feel its something far less sinister, She is showing no other symptoms, or in any pain. Some people say with cancer you dont have pain, this is not the case! to have cancer in such a place there would be excrutating pain. So this is why I feel that your mother is going to be just fine. I know its easy for me to say, but please try not to worry. If you ever need to talk again, please feel free to write to me.

I hope this has helped
