Contentment is happiness . You don't have to be wealthy to be happy. Being rich does not guarantee you happiness.
In fact being wealthy can bring on a new set of problems.

My family was rich but overbearring. I became clinically depressed at 16 because I had no social skills, didn't ask for help and didn't know what questions to ask. I had my life planned out, my words scripted to say in front of my extended family. My family spent too much on me not to see me successful. I walked away from that lifestyle to please everybody and to prove my worth. I live by myself now. But I understand where my parents are coming from and could appreciate what they did for me. Today I am happy because I am self reliant and I let myself live my life. I never regret anything mistakes I made.
Money is important. It is when couples let material things and child rearing decisions bother them they forget that loving each other is more important.
This is a rather general question. Money does not guarantee happiness but it sure prevents a lot of unhappiness. We have become so material oriented that we sometimes thought we are creating happiness when in fact we are avoiding unhappiness and emptiness.
