Well I say go for it, so many people loose love because of words they never say. And yes, we all want that perfect movie moment! If you think you have the courage to tell him how you feel then 100% tell him.
However, be prepared for the worst. If he does reject you, be ready for it. He is your BFF so he will love you whatever. But just make sure you aren't getting your hopes up too high, I'm sure a lot of us know how it feels to be crushed.
