Do I pursue him or am I wasting my time?

I really like a guy and I've liked him since 2009. The problem is he's 3 years older than me and doesn't seem to know i exist. He's seen me around a few times but still he doesn't smile at me or wave or anything. we talk on face-book but in real life it's as if I'm invisible. i really wanna talk to him in real life[we're in the same school] but i just don't seem to have the courage, or topic seeing as none of my friends are friends with him or even their friends. he's always with his friends and busy and when the only time he's alone is when he's going home listening to music through his earphones, he goes out at lunch and is hardly around at break so i don't get a chance then either please help.
