Hi, I know this is a site for love problems and such, but maybe you can help. I know this sounds crazy, weird and stupid, but this thing happened yesterday, so please be patient. I'm a christian and don't believe in ghosts, but yesterday morning when i was getting ready for the day, (brushing my teeth) and (bathroom door was open), I heard someone running outside my house and just a second later I heard someone by our keys like they were looking for something (we have a lot of keys). When I went to look who it was there was nobody. Now here are some facts: we have cats, but couldn't be them (and they would have played longer with the keys, believe me), my mom and dad were outside milking our goats and I knew were they were at the time, it wasn't them or my cousins(they were getting ready for school and work) and (we're lending one of our vehicles to them for the time and they live next door) because I asked them and no one else we know goes into our house, I heard the running just after my mom went next door to give one of the cats some milk and she would have seen something and our dogs would have barked and gone crazy. So who/what was it I heard? What do you think? And the place we live on (area) is smallish with other houses on it (just to give you a better idea of how the place looks like). Is this just the hormones talking, am i loosing it or is there something strange going on. I also don't have brothers or sisters just in case you were wondering. I just want to get someones view too. And it wasn't my imagination... it was too real, trust me. (confused) :(

Hi everyone. Thanks for the answers. WiseOwlE and Mark1978 and whoever else... we've lived in the house for about 2 years and know everybody here and there were times I heard other funny noises but thinked little of it, if I remember correctly me and my cousin also heard noises once in a while. Our dogs would have even gone a little crazy even if they knew the person, especially when they're sneaking around (EVEN IF THEY KNEW THE PERSON), the dogs were inside a dog cage because they scare the goats when my mom and dad are busy, (don't worry, it's big enough, and it's only for the morning and evening) even though THEY ARE VERY ALERT and they can see both sides of the house where the person could have come in, so if the person threw meat for the dogs they would have made a noise because they always make a fuss over food, (we don't give them food when they're together in the cage because of that), and my mom and dad would have seen the person. The other dogs in the area would also have barked and there are about 5 out of 9 houses which have dogs. And I told my parents about this the same morning but they don't really seem to be into this, if you know what I mean. The floor of my house is made out of tiles so there is no creaking and our windows have safety bars. There are 3 doors to our house and both face to the same side (1 is for the garage) and we have a small house. Like I said: it wasn't my imagination... it was to real, in fact it really sounded like my dad even if it's no one i/we know. The answers does make sense but there are just to many things that don't work in our case. please answer (still confused):(

BOO!

My father used to say to me when I had thought I had just seen or heard a ghost! You need to be more afraid of the living than the dead, he said this because I ran outside the house scared:)and stood in the dark alone until someone was home. Yes, always think logic first and tell mum and dad, not saying I don't believe ghosts exist. Some things can never be explained but more often than not it is something quite normal and can be explained with a logical answer.

Years ago I worked in a fast food restaurant day and night and when I sometimes stayed over in the flat after finishing late, I could hear so much creaking it was unbelievable, but it was just the floorboards breathing and going to sleep after having hundreds of feet walking on the floor all day. ( I think :)

Best spook laugh prank I had done on me once and a few others was my boyfriend strapping a remote control under his shirt and leaving a dud remote in eye shot of the tv, he turned tv on and off, changing chanels and high volume, we all bolted for the door quite shook up apart from one person, doubled up laughing. This is prank Logic.

Mark1978 agony auntSometimes I hear someone walking across our landing in the early hours...footsteps and creaking floorboards. BUT I soon realized its only on nights when we have the heating set to come on early. The hot water in the pipes causes the floorboards to expand and creak plus the pipes themselves "bump" as the water is pumped through.

In a previous house I heard whispering when in the house alone. Turned out to be the under floor heating system. Sounded just like a ghostly whisper. It wasn't.

Before we resort to talk of ghosts and paranormal out-a-worldly explanations, its important to explore all normal, worldly explanations which are far more likely. Its either a similar sound caused by the natural processes in the house (pipes, etc) or an intruder trying to make off with a vehicle.

By the way, dogs may not bark when they see someone they know!

If they are outside and the wind is blowing the wrong direction; they may not pick up the scent or sound of someone in the opposite direction. A common trick thieves use to distract them, is to throw them meat to slip by them.

If windows were open, they could have come in and left through a side window where no one's watching. Think natural before you think supernatural.

Before you jump to any conclusions; you must first wait and see if it ever happens again. If you have lived there for any length of time, don't you think you would have had an experience long before now?

Being alone, your senses are heightened and more intense; because we are naturally more aware of sounds around us when we are alone.

If you heard someone running; they were not standing still to be seen. They didn't want to get caught! Someone may have actually gotten into the house and gotten away before anyone detected them. Thieves are very clever, and know how to slip in and out right under your nose.

Please let your parents know you think you heard someone in the house, don't rush to the conclusion it was a ghost. It may have been a real-live person! If no one locked the door when they went outside; it would be easy for someone to slip in and out before anyone saw them.
