writes: okay, i am 15 and am on birth control (mononesa) and it is one of the 21 active pills, then 7 inactive pills, or "sugar pills". i had sex while on the INactive pills, (not on my period yet) and i was wondering if i could get pregnant from doing this? also my periods have been a lot lighter than they were before BC, is that normal?

reader, anonymous, writes (15 June 2010): Pretty much impossible. If you take all your active pills correctly, you won't release an egg throughout your cycle, so it's impossible. Look up how it works properly, it's pretty interesting if you're a sciencey type, and will make you more in control of your contraception. Also, lighter periods are normal, a perk of being on the pill :)

The pill is about as successful at preventing pregnancy as condoms are. About 99 percent basically.
But there is always the off chance a condom can break or be defective.
Just as there is the off chance that you might have a defective pill, or forget to take one or take it at the wrong times.
But the odds of this are quite near impossible.
