Can taking the pill erratically delay periods?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, *olly writes:

Hi DearCupid, do you know if taking a contraceptive pill erraticaly (i.e. not rigidly every 24 hours) can delay a period? I've not had sex this month with ejaculation, and it's always been with a condom so I'm ruling out pregnancy. I know I've been stressed also, due to important exams, and I know that could be a factor, too.

What do you think?

ArmyMedic agony auntAs long as you haven't been erratic with the condoms too, you should be fine, but you are messing your hormones around a lot by not taking your pill properly, so that can delay your period and so can stress.
