A male reader, Yos Netherlands +, writes (24 April 2006):

Yos agony auntThere are lots of web sites that outline techniques for dealing with premature ejaculation. The good news is that you can learn how to deal with this, it just takes a little patience and practice.

The basic technique is to masturbate yourself to as close to orgasm as you can get without orgasming, then stop and let yourself calm down a bit. You can stop by taking away your hands, or you can grip yourself very hard which also prevents orgasm. Once the feeling of approaching orgasm has subsided, then you can start masturbating again. The aim is to learn to recognize when orgasm is getting close and to learn to stop for a moment at the right time to prevent orgasm. After a while (and lots of practice) you should be able to get the hang of it. It's not easy to start with, the hardest bit is probably just stopping when orgasm approaches, since it feels so good and you just want so badly to continue at that point. You will find that with time you will develop a degree of control that applies to intercourse as well as masturbation.

Another more basic technique is to just have sex twice in succession. Agree to yourself that you will come quickly the first time. The second time will probably take you longer.

A very good book on the subject (I have read it) is Bernie Zilbergeld's The New Male Sexuality, which you can get from Amazon. This is also a very common subject that people see sex therapists about, I would suggest that if after some practice and reading by yourself you don't see any improvement, you could go see a therapist. They're used to this and will have lots of helpful suggestions.
