Can I still be pregnant even if the pregnancy test was negative?

Question - (29 May 2010) 6 Answers - (Newest, 29 May 2010)
A female Sweden age 36-40, *W writes:

Hello,

My period is late. My cycle is often (but not always!) 30 days, I'm now on day 34. I took a pregnancy test yesterday morning but it was negative.

The last week I've felt nausea, backpains, pain in my stomach, headaches, been very very hungry etc.

Can I still be pregnant even if the pregnancy test was negative? I'm really worried, which just makes me more stressed and possibly delays my period even further if it's coming at all...

person12345 agony auntYes, you can, but it's unlikely. At this early of a point if you were pregnant, the symptoms you describe sound more like the psychological symptoms of thinking you're pregnant rather than actually being pregnant. You can always go get a blood test if you're still worried. Make sure you take the pregnancy test first thing in the morning when the hormones are highest.

Laura1318 agony auntTechnically ,you can still be pregnant until your period arrives or you are tested positive . Take a pregnancy test every three days until day 14th.

A blood test would be more accurate.

I took a test about four days after I missed my period one of the expensive ones too and it came back negative two weeks later my period still hadn't come so I took another test and it came up positive! I know its an agonizing wait but the longer you leave it the higher the pregnancy hormone gets so the test will work better. If u can't wait go to the doctor and they will do a test for you which is more sensitive than the home brought ones x

I took the morning after pill AND I took a pregnancy test and it was negative but I was still pregnant, and it was ectopic.

You should go to the doctors, just to be sure.

Hope everything turns out okay :)

Have you taken the morning after pill since your last period? I did and my period was very late.

Have you been stressed? Tired? Eating properly? All these things can affect your period. If you are worried, please see your doctor who will be able to do a test and put your mind at rest.
