Right now I am getting treated and hope to feel better soon. The thing is prior to my depression I was an elite runner. I set and still have three records at my college, made it to nationals, received all conference awards and was in the best shape of my life. During my depression I could not do anything, I could not run as much i just couldnt do it anyone who has delt with depression knows how you just cant do stuff and lose interest in everything you used to enjoy. I would go weeks without running and havent been running consistently for about 4 months now taking 2 weeks off just laying around and such. Along with that, I gained about 45 pounds in the last year since last september when my depression started. I went from a very fit 102-105 pounds to 150 pounds. I am trying to get back in shape but I cant run because it hurts so much and I dont have the endurance that I used to have, I am soooo out of shape. I dont know if this is because of the weight that I gained or I am truly back at square 1 where I started 10 years ago. I am going back to school in January and hope to be competing in the spring or prolly in the fall 2009. My question is if I work hard and lose the weight by running through the pain would i be in the same shape that I once was or did I lose it all and will take years to come back from. I want to be back in the shape I was for next fall 2009 but i dont know if that is possible. Its really been bothering me as I was a very talented and valuable runner on my team.Thank you guys for reading this.Cassie Reply to this Question Share |

You need to look at it as if you are starting from square one.
You need to start slow, and build. But if you are a solid 50 pounds heavier you need to put yourself on a strict diet, along with a workout plan. Whether its starting on a tredmil or walking outside at first, find something you are comfortable with.
Once you make those initial steps and get back in the habit of eating well and working out, you are going to make a lot more progress. I work out a ton and even if I take a week or two off and I get back and feel out of shape, the first few days are hard, but then i get back to normal. Its going to be similar, but just take a little longer. You need to work hard and eat well for a few months, once you get a good base for yourself to start building again thats when you are going to make positive gains.
Good luck.
