Can I be friends with my ex? An instagram post was misunderstood!

A female United Kingdom age 18-21, *f16 writes:

I went out with this boy, who was the same age as me for about 7 months. He dumped me in January, but I don't really know why. Before we dated we were really close friends and since we have broken up, we have become friends again - just as close as we used to be.

But this may be a problem because of a social media post I put on Instagram

He posted a picture of himself running, and we had been texting because we both run after school, I asked him if I could copy his post and he said I could as long as I said I had copied him.

I captioned this picture the wrong way and now everyone thinks I'm trying to make it look like we ran together and people at my school are starting to think and say I'm still in love with him, accusing me of copying him and teasing me because he likes someone else.

Now I don't know what to do... should I ignore him and totally unfriend him? Explain everything to him? Please help, he is/was a really dear friend

Thanks

aunt honesty agony auntYou don't need to end the friendship, maybe take the post down from social media, apologize to him for wording it wrong and tell him you still want to be friends. Let everyone else talk if they want, it will be someone else next week.

I think you did go a little far with the picture. No big deal though, lesson learned. You don't need to share his pictures to be his friend. It is probably not your place to be sharing any of his photos, that usually is only for a girlfriend or partner. Sooo just hold your head up high, and chalk it up to a learning experience. All teenagers make TONS of mistakes on social media (sometimes adults do too!) So I wouldn't worry...they share embarrassing or inappropriate pictures and get into a lot worse situations than this.

Just let it blow over, and laugh it off when you get teased.

You cant unfriend a friend just because you labelled the picture wrong because it makes no sense.

Maybe you do still feel connected but its not important.

All this will be yesterdays news as soon as you put a new picture up.

Cute kittens are liked by more people than you could imagine so get busy looking for pictures of cute kittens and put a nice caption..like "My purrfect pet!"

Or "Ahhhh.."

Soon the topic will turn elsewhere.

Or choose a giraffe and write "just sticking my neck out!"

In fact anything thats jokey and not too serious!

And as for the rumours and gossip squad..well think how the Kardashians feel and consider the gossip about you to be a mere drop in the ocean.

Andie's Thoughts agony auntJust be honest and see what happens. Why did you change it? Maybe put a little distance between you.
