writes:Me late 40s. My boss is a lady younger than me but much senior in role. We both were traveling in car for business trip. I was on wheels and she was in back seat. Suddenly, she was talking on phone in chivalrous tone briefly explaining purpose of trip followed by a comment that she had kid only to have baby like you to the person on other side. She is married. I don't have any intention of eavesdropping and I always maintain a distance. Just talk hit my ears. She is very shrewd lady and I don't think she can talk like this when another ear is few feet away. I am confused. Is she trying to poke me.

reader, anonymous, writes (1 August 2023): It could be much simpler than that - she is your boss and she is just showing how unimportant you are by discussing something private in fromnt of you. You know, like aristocrats used to do in fron of their servants.
I've seen this many times, in my private and professional life.
It is very rude and it says tons about her.
It is what it is.
