writes:ok this is prolly the same question you hear all the time. ok here goes,i have been best friends with this guy for 3 years..we party together, hang together and even talk or see each other everyday,we are close we hangout in the same group of friends and all our friends say we would make a cute couple and that we like each other. we have had a few nights where we get alittle touchy-feely.but never anything more..now for the bad part he has a girlfriend i actually met him through her,they have a son together who is almost a year old..i even babysit sometimes.i am totally hopeless when it comes to him i will do anything for him. and he will do anything for me,we are so so so close,even his girlfriend told me that she gets jealious because hes always talking about me,and putting my feelings before her's. she said that she knows were bestfriends and kinda laughs but i can tell that she dont like us being close. a few weeks ago my father died of cancer..i didnt ask him but he showed up for me ,sat by my side and held my hand he did exactly what i needed him to do.he stayed strong for me ,he just held me while i cried on his shoulder.he left his girl at home to be there.it really meant alot to me. he is always there for me,when i need him the most. every guy i do bring around he chases off,witch is funny like i said hes got a girlfriend.he is so protective of me, but not in a brother/sister kind of way,in a different way.he actually blows off his girl for me and leaves her at home to hang with me. i dont get it..and i know you are going to say to put space in between us and stay away but its not that simple we are such good friends i kno it wouldnt work that way .i've tried to talk to him but i know that he has a girl and a baby and i dont know what i exspect from him.i guess what i want to know is people say that a girl and a guy cant be best friends because eventually things get complicated ...im not sure if i love the idea of him or if theres really something there.what do ido? i feel like every move that i make is wrong..help

reader, anonymous, writes (18 August 2009): Talk to him. He has a GF and a baby and it seems to me that he's trying to do the right thing by being there for them. But his heart is in a different place. It's a tough call when you have children because your decisions affect not just your life but also that of the people who rely on your the most (and who you should protect as much as you can). But it's not worth being miserable and sacrificing your own happiness for your children. In the end that backfires.You are friends, good friends. Figuring out these things is what friends are for.
