Hello,

This isn't really a relationship question, but I would like you guys to help me with this if you can, I think women would be more helpful for this type of question :) haha

I'm going on holiday in the summer with five of my friends. and I was going to buy some hair removal cream, or strips but I don't know which brand would be best to use? I would like to know because I heard that removing hair by waxing or some sort of cream will last longer and the hair wont grow back as quickly?

Also mum doesn't really agree with it because she believes women should stay as they are 'naturally' she doesn't stop me from doing this, and I wouldn't ever do something behind her back anyway, but is there any way I could just help her to understand that we feel differently about it?

We are going to Spain so the climate will probably be very hot, my friends said their going to be bringing mostly shorts, and I think that it would be a good idea, but if I am going to wear shorts I want my legs smooth. Any help with this would be much appreciated! And sorry this is a bit long :/

Nicki, I recommend using either wax strips (Veet is my first choice and Nair my second) or microwaveable wax (the kind without the fabric strips). The former has a sugary stickiness while the latter is more like candle wax in that once it cools it breaks off and leaves no gunky residue. If you use the strips, then cut them into smaller more manageable pieces. It's easier and less traumatic ripping off something the size of a Band Aid than it is ripping off something the size of a napkin.

Trim the area before waxing and apply a light dusting of talcum powder. Both measures prevent excess pulling of the hair or the skin. And I strongly recommend using PFB lotion (failing that Bikini Zone) afterward. Apply moisturizer and exfoliate the area regularly to prevent ingrown hairs.

I have used an epilady since I was 20 years old for my legs. I can now go up to 8 weeks before I even seen a sign of any hair which is good, especially when I not good at going to beauty appointments on a regular basis.

Be aware though, when you first use it I do remember it being a bit painful but now I feel nothing at all - best thing I ever did because I don't get the prickles. I only use it on my legs though.

I would like to know the best creams or methods for a bikini wax, or getting a nice airstrip down there!? I am too embarassed to go a beauty salon for that. Waxing I think would be too painful though. Any thoughts or ideas?

Better to use wax or wax strips than cream. Waxing, if done correctly, pulls the hair out at the root while cream lasts little longer than shaving. And if the hair is thick enough it will only singe it. You'd end up having to shave the remainder off anyway (and it will be too weak to wax by then).

Sprinkle some talcum powder on the skin before waxing it. That will allow the wax to pull the hair, not the skin thus reducing skin irritation. Be sure to have baby oil or azulene oil handy to remove sticky residue when you're done. Bikini Zone or PFB lotion (which is even better) will help avoid ingrown hairs afterward. Moisturize and exfoliate the area the days following.

As to your mum...you have your views and you don't want your mum preaching and trying to convince you of hers. Conversely don't do it to her. As long as each of you is allowed to practice what you believe on your own bodies then it doesn't really matter what the other thinks.

Keep it simple and don't bog down your relationship with unnecessary baggage. Wax and say nothing to your mum.

I would reccomend you go to a salon to be waxed, you will not have to do anything then for a least a month :) and as far as your mum goes on the old natural thing.......that is so 70's lol. tell her Mum I love you an all, but that went out years ago, I want to be smooth and silky, and get a great tan :D

Hello no worries,

I have had this problem before many people have. I used to get bullied because i have dark hair so my hair shows more. At school or p.e people used to make comments and even still make comments about my back. I told my mum and she helped me sort it out, everything is fine now and even though she thought i was too young she agreed because how unhappy this was making me.

I know you want me to answer your question; i'm coming on to that now. As you see i told my mum how i felt, i know your mum thinks you should be natural. But maybe have a quiet word with her explain how times have changed and people can be so nasty. You want to feel confident about yourself and not hide away. If she still doesn't agree then don't get angry but ask her, has she ever been in a situation like this? where you feel not confident because of other people cruel comments? I'm sure your mum must have done this at one point if not maybe she has/does felt insecure about a part of her body. Tell her thats how you feel, you shouldnt be ashamed of your body and lots of people do it. Its not wrong to do, just not natural.

Okay now the things i think you should use. I shave my legs and although you will have to take it on holiday with you and do it everyday i find it best and easy to do. You have to put soap + water on the part you are going to shave then carefully shave. It Doesnt hurt as long as you are gentle, because otherwise you will cut yourself. Use a new shaver , but this means you will have to be extra careful as they are sharp but easy to use. Dont use an old shaver. Once you have shaved one bit rinse it and start again.

An alternative ;

Nair is a good hair removal cream. To be honest , i think hair removal creams are rubbish. I have tried them and they smell awful an eggy smell. I dont think it gives you a great lose of hair as you have to wait longer and in my opinion its not as great. My friend uses nair and loves it, and happily uses it on her legs as her mum likes to be natural to. But you ARE going to shave your bikni line arent you? because you will wear a bikini. I dont think hair removal is best to use on these areas.

Have fun on holiday + good luck with your mum.

ps. dont wax, you have to wait ages for it to grow and hurts soo much!!
