We have been together over a year.I would also like some advice on how to support her assertiveness, because while I am away at college, people do not listen to her at all... I will be coming back to live with her in about a months time now.Look forward to any advice.

You need to understand that you can't be responsible for her feelings- she can't be co-dependant on you... that's not healthy. The way to support her assertivness is to be an advocate for her. Don't speak her words for her, but make sure that those she is trying to talk to know that she has something to say!
