reader, anonymous, writes (19 March 2006): Such "friends" you don't need in your life. Talk to her in private and explain to her what a troll she's being, and that until she can sort out her anxieties like a grown-up, your friendship is suspended.
The temptation will be great, but don't sink to her level (i.e. spread retaliatory rumours). By being the mature party in this debacle, you'll throw into sharp relief how childish she is being, and other people will take notice, too.

This girl is not your friend if she is going to spread rumours about you. Sit her down and say to her if you still want to be friends you have got to stop preading rumours if she will not listen the just walk away as she isn't wearth be friends with.
