The fam includes 3 younger siblings, mom, and 2 extended fam members. Mom is out of a job (bad economy), and the 2 fam members have a limited income, so since i've gotten my job i've helped out a lot. However, a friend and I are thinking of getting our own place in the same city. Is this selfish? I feel the need to be out on my own, but I also don't want to abandon my fam.

Hi there, i do not think its being selfish, i call it growing up an wanting to spread ur wings. The question i think would be, do u think its a good idea to leave ur mom right now when she doesnt have an income? she's ur mom u know. Maybe wait until she finds a job.

No, you're not being selfish. You need to get on with your life, and the rest of your family need to learn to get by on their own.
